I have been engaged in serious practice and study of Christian spirituality for over 30 years, first in my native country, South Africa and now in the United States. I earned a doctorate in practical theology (focused on Christian spirituality and spiritual formation) from the University of Durban-Westville, South Africa and have taught at colleges in both South Africa and the United States. I am currently Professor of Religion and Christian Education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, and an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Reformed Church in America. I am the author of Keeping Company With Jesus, a book of reflections on some Gospel stories, and Knit Together: Many Colors, One Life, a memoir of my journey towards healing and wholeness. I have also published numerous articles on Christian education and Christian spirituality. When I can, I love to bike, bird watch and simply stare and wonder at the grandeur of God in creation’s beauty.
